Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has revealed he was on the receiving end of death threats following an altercation with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah during last season’s Champions League final.

Madrid won the game 3-1 to seal a third successive European crown thanks to goals from Gareth Bale (2) and Karim Benzema.

But Liverpool’s chances of winning were dealt a huge blow when their star player was forced off with a dislocated shoulder in the first half, and many believe Ramos set out to intentionally injure Salah.

The Spain international was booed throughout Saturday night’s UEFA Nations League clash with England at Wembley and afterwards, he opened up about how he and his family have been treated since that night in Kiev.

“One tries to evade [the boos]. In the end you feel it, but I stay out of everything. It doesn’t affect my game,” the 32-year-old told reporters.

“I would have liked another reception because people only remember the action of the final, and nobody remembers the death threats that my family and my children received.

“It is a very sensitive issue that people maybe take as a joke about and [that’s why they] whistle in a great stadium like this.

“My conscience is very clear. I already explained [what happened], and I do not have to give more explanations.”

Speaking before Saturday’s game – which Spain won 2-1 – Ramos denied allegations he intended to hurt Salah.

“I never go onto the pitch with the intention of injuring another professional so I have a very clear conscience,” he said.

“If the Premier League is known for something it’s for the good reception it always gives to the best players.

“I’ve come here to win with Spain and I don’t care what people might say or how I will be received.”

But speaking recently, Reds boss Jürgen Klopp explained why he’s thoroughly unconvinced by Ramos’s protestations.

“I watched that back, of course,” said Klopp.

“If you watch it back and you’re not with Real Madrid, then you think it’s ruthless and brutal. You don’t think, ‘Wow, good challenge’.

“It was ruthless. I don’t think Mo would have always got injured in that situation, and this time it was unlucky, but it’s an experience that we cannot have.

“Ramos said a lot of things that I didn’t like. As a person I didn’t like the reactions of him. He was like ‘Whatever, what do they want? It’s normal’. No, it’s not normal.”
