Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos confirmed on Sunday that he is ready to link back up with the Spanish national team, if afforded the opportunity.

Ramos’ words come fresh off what many have since described as his finest display since securing a return to Sevilla last summer.

The 37-year-old was afforded a starting berth at the heart of the Nervionenses’ backline, for the club’s La Liga showdown with Atlético Madrid last night.

And Ramos proved himself an absolute rock over the course of the 90 minutes, crucial to his side’s eventual emergence on the right side of a 1-0 result.

With Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente having been in attendance at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, the subject of a potential return to the international scene, in turn, was put to the former Real Madrid captain post-match.

Ramos, for his part, announced his retirement from international football in February of last year, after being informed by the aforementioned De la Fuente that he would no longer be considered for selection.

On Sunday, though, Spain’s all-time record cap holder hinted that he has set his sights on a return, ahead of the upcoming European Championships:

“Those of us who are Spanish work with the hope of going to the national team, and letting the coach decide.”
