Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos has issued a response on Twitter after Spanish channel Movistar broadcast a clip in which they alleged that he had insulted the club, in the wake of the Champions League last 16 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

The video includes a caption insinuating that the World Cup winner was, in Spanish, essentially calling the club “motherf*****s“. Ramos, in his response, recognised that he has used the offensive expression, but that it was not aimed at Paris, but rather a show of frustration at the result.

The former Real Madrid man adds that the expression is often used in football, and that the word which the TV channel had transcribed as “París” was instead a “pfff” or a “psss“.

Ramos, who was arguably PSG’s best performer across both legs against the Bavarians, sees his contract expire at the end of the campaign – amid a worsening injury crisis at the back, the veteran will now have the chance to prove he can continue to play at a high level in the league run-in.
