Sergio Conceição claimed he advised his son to pick Juventus over other ‘huge teams’ last summer, as he defined the Bianconeri as ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’.
Francisco Conceição joined the Old Lady from Porto on loan last August, but his exciting start at the Allianz Stadium seems to have already convinced the club’s executive to make his deal permanent in the next few months.
The 21-year-old already scored both in Serie A and the Champions League, and he was particularly brilliant in his side’s 3-2 comeback win at Leipzig, where he came on to replace the injured Nico Gonzalez before scoring the winner in the second half with a stunning solo goal.
“I have to be fair [as a coach], Francisco didn’t play for six months last year, I would bring him on just for a few minutes,” Sergio Conceição said during the 2024 Golden Boy Awards ceremony, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
“He did good things, but he had to understand how to move, how to follow the team’s organisation. When he understood this he started to play, I already knew his technique, speed and ability to dribble.

“He needed to add the rest to be a complete player and ready to play in Italy and the Champions League. There were two or three huge teams that wanted him, but I advised him to go to Italy and at Juventus, who are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I knew he could make a difference if he took control of the situation, without making any excuse because it’s nice in Italy and it’s a beautiful country.”
Sergio Conceição played in Serie A between 1998 and 2004, wearing the shirts of Lazio, Parma and Inter.
