Currently, at the Euros with Spain, Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets passed through the microphones for an interview with Cadena SER’s El Larguero program about the challenges of being the Spanish captain, his international future and Lionel Messi’s continuity at Barcelona.

Just before the tournament began, the 32-year old tested positive for COVID-19 and had to isolate for the better part of ten days before he finally returned a negative test and joined the national team’s training camp. It was a tough time for the midfielder, but he played his first match of the tournament against Slovakia and turned in a masterful performance.

Ahead of the round of 16, he spoke about leading Spain to success in the rest of the tournament as one of the seniormost players: “I know that I am the captain, the player with the most international appearances, with the most experience and the most tournaments and somehow at specific moments I am the one who has to be in charge.”

He was then asked about the possibility of becoming a coach some time in the future, to which he replied: “Yes, I think I’m going to try. It’s not easy, you have to be worth it, you have to know how to reach the players, transmit, but I’d like to try.”

On what coach he would like to be reborn as, Busquets said: “Difficult, I have had very good ones. he first one is always special. Thanks to him you live all this. I have to always be very grateful to Guardiola”

About Messi’s contract renewal, he added: “Hopefully we will continue to play together next year. Let’s see if it renews, that surely yes? I’m sure.”

He then stated that this edition of the Euros is probably his last, but he does not entirely rule out playing in next year’s World Cup in Qatar: “Yes, the European Championship is the last one for me, but the World Cup I don’t know. If Luis Enrique asks me to go to the World Cup, will I say no? I don’t know, we’ll see.”
