An update on the long-touted departure of Sergio Akieme from La Liga outfit Almería has been provided this evening.
The info comes courtesy of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that Akieme is all set for a move to France, with Stade de Reims.
The respective boards at Reims, and Almería, have been locked in talks for some time now, over the terms of a January deal for Akieme.
This comes after the left-back was identified as the chief mid-season target on the part of the former.
The board at the Power Horse Stadium, initially, appeared hesitant to agree to as much, with Akieme continuing to play a key role in Gaizka Garitano’s squad.
After the 26-year-old made clear his desire for a new challenge in Ligue 1, though, talks between the parties kicked up a notch.
And now, on Wednesday, such negotiations appear closer than ever to at long last bearing fruit.
As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:
‘Stade Reims are closing in on Sergio Akieme deal.’
This comes with an agreement having been found, over the terms of a deal worth €10 million, including bonuses. Almería have also secured a 20% sell-on clause.
Akieme is now in line to fly out to France, ahead of undergoing a medical and putting pen to paper on a contract with new club Reims.
