Sergio Agüero backs 'elite' Erling Haaland to be a Man City success | OneFootball

Manchester City legend Sergio Agüero believes Erling Haaland has what it takes to be a success at the club, although he has warned that a period of adaptation should be expected.

Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund in a £51m deal earlier this summer, and is expected to make his debut for the club in a friendly against Club América later this week.

And Agüero is tipping the Norwegian to be the striker the Premier League champions have been waiting for.

“Haaland’s is a very important signing. I think his goalscoring ability is proven. His stats through the German league and in Europe confirms this,” the retired Argentine striker told Stake.com.

“Logically, he will have a period of adaptation to a league as strong as the Premier League but I think he will go through his own process and the results will be seen soon.”

Agüero himself needed time to adjust to the demands of Pep Guardiola’s football when the Catalan coach first took over at the Etihad Stadium, but manager and player eventually formed an understanding and the goals continued to flow.

“I think that an elite player like him will know how to reconcile his style with that of Pep’s teams,” Agüero continued.

“It may take a while, as it did in the beginning for me. But once he gets into gear everything will be simpler. I think he has the talent to fulfil what is asked of him, which are goals.”
