Ahead of Germany’s humiliating 2-1 defeat against North Macedonia on Wednesday, Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry discussed his desire to keep scoring for his country.

Gnabry enjoyed a very productive international break, dishing out a pair of assists against Iceland before scoring the game’s only goal against Romania over the weekend.

“I’m doing my thing, but looking at my goal statistics is a motivation for me. I want to keep this run going,” he told DFB’s official website.

“I want to score even more goals and get myself a little closer to a legend like Gerd Müller.

“When I play for the national team, that’s what’s expected of me. I have to score the goals when the opportunities arise.”

With only 10 goals to his name this season and Robert Lewandowski out for the next four weeks, much of Bayern’s successes or failures this season could come down to Gnabry’s performances over the next month.
