Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was amazed by Amad Diallo’s brilliant finish, which gave Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Man City took the lead through Josko Gvardiol’s header in the 36th minute. United showed great character to snatch the victory out of the jaws of the defeat in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes restored parity from the penalty spot after Diallo was brought down in the penalty area by Matheus Nunes.

Diallo then snatched the win for the Red Devils. The Ivorian timed his run to meet Lisandro Martinez’s pass and beautifully chipped the ball over Ederson before putting the ball home with a sublime finish.

Speaking on commentary duties with Sky Sports (h/t BBC Sport), Neville was full of adulation for the Ivorian forward.

“It is bedlam in that far corner and on the Manchester United bench,” Neville said. “Amad, what have you just done? An absolute shining light.

“What must Pep Guardiola be thinking? Amad has been sensational – the only Manchester United player to look like a Manchester United player.

“The pass from Martinez is good, and the run between Nunes and Gvardiol is. The touch is perfect, and the finish – Gvardiol maybe could have cleared it but take nothing away from this boy.

“The first touch is beautiful. He gets enough on it, and he has turned the game on its head.”

The victory was United’s first at the Etihad since 2021.

Diallo was one of the Red Devils’ key players in our pre-match review, and he justified our choice.

He won the penalty to give the Red Devils the equalizer and produced sheer brilliance to snatch the victory from the gasp of Man City.

Diallo was the only Man United player that caused havoc for the Citizens’ defence. He completed five of the eight dribbles he attempted and had two shots on target.

He also helped defensively. He was involved in 10 ground duels and won seven of them. He also registered two interceptions and one tackle.
