Senne Lammens can hardly believe he’s a Manchester United player. The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper is determined to help the club get back to where they want to be.
Antwerp’s technical director, Marc Overmars, let Lammens leave for Manchester United for a record fee of €21million (£18.2m) plus €4m in add-ons. There, the stopper will compete with André Onana and Altay Bayindir.
“Being here now is almost surreal,” said Lammens, who becomes the first Belgian to wear the Mancunians’ shirt since Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan in 2019. “You feel the grandeur. When I was about five, Manchester United were at the absolute top. You carry that feeling with you, and now I’m here… it’s almost surreal.”
“There were guys in my squad who played football in England. When I said I could move to Manchester United, you could see their expressions immediately change. Just the name of the club, the aura surrounding it.
“I want to grow with this team. And bring the club back to a level where we can compete for the title and Champions League football again. To the level Manchester United once stood for.”
