The latest twist in the staggering claims of a potential exit for Ederson from Manchester City this summer has revealed the view from ‘senior figures’.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been forced to miss out on Manchester City’s final two matches of the season due to a horror injury sustained in the club’s 0-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

The 30-year-old took a blow to his head from the knee of Spurs defender Cristian Romero whilst challenging for the ball, in a clash that tests later revealed caused a fractured eye socket for the Manchester City number one.

As such, Stefan Ortega has assumed responsibilities for the club between the posts, starring during his second-half showing against Spurs, and largely being faultless in the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday afternoon.

The final match of the campaign comes at Wembley Stadium, as Manchester City take on rivals United in the FA Cup final, before both Ortega and Ederson could seek clarity over their respective positions in Pep Guardiola’s side and the club as a whole.

A string of reports have speculated on the futures of both men, with enquiries over potential Manchester City exits likely to come from a number of potential suitors in the coming summer transfer window.

According to the information of The Mirror’s David McDonnell, Ederson could be one of the most high-profile players to leave Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad during the upcoming summer market.

It is claimed that ‘senior figures’ fear the Brazilian international goalkeeper is now ready to move on from the Etihad Stadium after seven years at the club, with the Saudi Pro League his ‘likeliest’ destination.

While it is clarified that Manchester City are not looking to sell Ederson, should a ‘huge offer way above his market value’ come in this summer, then the club would ‘consider it’ and make a decision accordingly.

But how does Ederson’s future link to a similarly uncertain situation concerning back-up option Stefan Ortega?

David McDonnell reports that while Manchester City have offered Ortega a new deal, the 31-year-old ‘wants assurances over improved playing time’ before he commits his future to the Etihad Stadium beyond 2025.

It is speculated that Ortega’s decision is ‘likely’ to be dependent on what happens with Ederson. Should City offer Ederson a new deal this summer, rather than cash in, then the former Arminia Bielefeld man is ‘likely to go’.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
