Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Gini Wijnaldum will be leaving the club this summer as speculation over his contract continues.
The Dutchman sees his current deal at Liverpool expire in the summer and, as things stand, he is on course to leave the club on a free.
Indeed, he has not been happy enough with the new terms offered him and with just a couple of months left to sort things, Mark Lawrenson thinks he could be off.
Speaking to Off the Ball, he said:
“The old pro in me kind of looks at him and thinks, well, you almost like want to leave him out. He is saying to the club, ‘See you later, I am out of here’. They will have offered him a really really good contract obviously, so he needs replacing.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
It does certainly look likely that we are going to see the Reds’ no.5 walk away from the club this summer as things stand.
It’s clear he has not been happy with what he has seen from the Reds in terms of their new contract offer and it does not seem as though the Reds are going to budge from it either.
Indeed, with that in mind, unless the midfielder has a climb down and accepts the offer anyway he will be moving away on a free with the likes of FC Barcelona obviously touted as a potential destination for him.
