Selling Lautaro Martinez Would Show Inter More Focused On Finances Than Success On The Pitch, Italian Media Argue

Inter would send a message that they care more about balancing their budget than about success on the pitch if they were to sell Lautaro Martinez this summer, according to Italian media.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport argue that the Argentine has become a symbol of this Inter team and that the club should have serious second thoughts about accepting any offer for his signature.
Martinez continued his red hot run of scoring form with a second-half brace to see off Cagliari in yesterday’s 3-1 victory, taking his total to thirteen goals from his last thirteen matches.
The 24-year-old has had something of an up-and-down campaign in which he has suffered some bad dips in form and goal droughts, but when it has counted most he has proved to be decisive.
Now, the question for the club will be whether to continue to place their faith in the Argentine to keep growing in this direction for next season and further cement his status as a symbol of success, or to cash in on him in the summer.
Martinez looks to be the player with the highest market value in the Nerazzurri’s squad and a player whose departure could go a long way towards meeting financial targets in the summer.
However, for the Gazzetta this calculation would send a message that the club are focused on their finances rather than on building a successful project.
