La Liga president Javier Tebas has on Tuesday provided his take on the decision of Real Madrid not to attend last night’s Ballon d’Or gala.
And the Spanish patron, like much of the football world, did not hesitate in revealing his disappointment with the behaviour of the Spanish champions.
The actions of the powers that be at Real Madrid have of course positioned themselves front and centre in the headlines across all of Europe over the last 24 hours.
This comes after Florentino Pérez and co. made the last-minute call to cancel their trip to Paris, to attend the ‘Golden Ball’ ceremony.
After learning that Vinícius Jr. had missed out on the award to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, Los Blancos’ brass informed all of their players, coaching and backroom staff that a collective boycott had been put in place.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday evening, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Real Madrid’s behaviour was put to the aforementioned Javier Tebas.
And, in his response, La Liga’s president made use of the opportunity to take firm aim at the board at the Santiago Bernabéu:
“Real Madrid should’ve went to the Ballon d’Or gala, and not question France Football’s system. The club’s self-victimization is unnecessary and exaggerated. I don’t know what they’re doing. This lack of class of theirs, we’re seeing it in Spain too.”
