In a recent interview with Globo Esporte, Brazilian wonderkid Kayky has opened up on his ‘dream’ Manchester City move. The Champions of England struck a £9m deal this summer with Fluminense for their prized asset. However, the teenager is set to continue his development back in his homeland until January 2022.
“I was anxious from the first time they said there was a proposal from Manchester City. It was my dream to work with Pep Guardiola, I consider him to be one of the best coaches, and every day I got closer to joining, I got more anxious.”
Revealed the youngster who is excited to kickstart his European journey at one of the world’s best academy ranks. He has spoken to the club’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain but is yet to have a chat with Guardiola about the project.
The Abu Dhabi-based ownership has invested billions over the years to become a fearsome force. They have also focused on reconstructing the youth setup by roping in highly-rated teenagers and Kayky, one of Brazil’s most high-profile prospects, would enrich them even more at the academy level.

The Rio de Janeiro-born winger progressed through Flu’s academy set-up before breaking into their senior side earlier this year. At 18, he has already featured 32 times for the Brazilian hotshots and is destined to make it big in world football. Kayky had other suitors including Liverpool, but the Skyblues won the race back in April as they announced the agreement on the social platform.
City followed a similar strategy when they secured the services of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras. Although the Selecao star was handed an instant first-team role upon his arrival, Kayky would join the youth team initially to be attuned to the demands of English football.
Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Ferran Torres, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva are there already to feature from the flanks. Jesus, too, has exhibited his excellence down the wide and the Fluminense starlet, therefore, must stay patient for his opportunities in the star-studded Man City squad.
The left-footed forward prefers to operate from the right-hand side as an inverted winger. His swift footwork, flashy skills and ability to take on the defenders are some of the attributes he holds. Having said that, the young prodigy must work on his end product and his spell with the reserves should help him develop his traits before staking a claim in Guardiola’s plans.
