It was the worst possible start for the home side who came into the game needing a win to move back into the top-four.

One-time Dortmund her Mario Götze struck to open the scoring and silence the home crowd, but the lead lasted only 20 minutes.

That was thanks to Karim Adeyemi who reignited the Dortmund faithful and leveled the score.

The turnaround was completed in the final 10 minutes when a Julian Brandt free-kick was headed home by Mats Hummels to give the hosts their first lead of the night; one they would ride until the final whistle.

There was a late scare when Emre Can was shown a red-card for a reckless challenge, but that card was downgraded to yellow after a VAR check.

The game was put to bed in stoppage-time when Dortmund were given a penalty-kick after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was taken down in the box.

Up stepped the aforementioned Can to fire home from the spot and ensure the win for the home side.
