AtlĂ©tico Madrid traveled to the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla for Sundayâs clash against CĂĄdiz and walk away with all three points after a 4-1 win.
Scorers: Oblak 86âČ (OG); Lemar 56âČ, Griezmann 70âČ, Correa 76âČ, Cunha 86âČ
Heading into Sundayâs match, AtlĂ©tico Madrid were focused on putting their Champions League woes behind them and capitalising on Real Sociedadâs earlier slip-up.
As such, Diego Simeoneâs men lunged forward but CĂĄdiz shut down virtually every threat in the first 45 minutes. Attempts from the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Antoine Griezmann couldnât find the target.
The best chance fell to a wide-open Luis SuĂĄrez just before the break when the ball dropped right in his path but the Uruguayanâs attempt went wayward.
The flow of play shifted in favour of the hosts after the break with Anthony Lozano coming inches away from finding the opener.
Over time, however, Atleti continued to overload CĂĄdiz with pressure and Thomas Lemarâs back-post header made things 1-0.
After that, the floodgates were open and goals from Griezmann, Ăngel Correa and Matheus Cunha secured three points.
CĂĄdiz did manage to get themselves on the scoresheet after an interesting own-goal from Jan Oblak late in the game.
With the result, Atleti now sit second in the table while CĂĄdiz are 17th.
