Borussia Dortmund’s Sébastien Haller has discussed his future at the club, as well as their upcoming Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ivorian has struggled to displace Niclas Füllkrug in the Dortmund squad, and has played just 514 minutes in 18 games across all competitions, scoring three and creating one. After the Africa Cup of Nations and a subsequent ankle injury kept Haller out for much of 2024, the 29-year-old made his return against Bayern Munich on March 30, assisting Julian Ryerson for Dortmund’s second against the Rekordmeister.

Haller would then play eight minutes against Stuttgart before coming on to score against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final first leg. Had the Ivorian not scored at the Wanda Metropolitano, BVB’s task at the Westfalenstadion in the second-leg would have been far tougher.

After coming on as a substitute in three successive games, Haller was awarded a start against Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, after an innocuous challenge with Nico Elvedi, the Ivorian forward suffered an ankle injury after nine minutes and faces a race to be fit for their tie against PSG.

Will Sébastien Haller be at Borussia Dortmund next season?

Although Haller has a contract until 2026, he’s found playing time difficult to come by, alongside Youssoufa Moukoko. Speaking to WAZ, the former West Ham and Ajax striker didn’t rule out a departure from Dortmund in the summer, but isn’t in any rush to make a decision.

“Since the start of my career, I’ve been saying to myself: I can’t plan everything. At the moment I’m at Borussia Dortmund and I want to be a part of the Champions League semi-finals. I don’t focus on the future. I’m in no rush to make a decision,” said Haller.

When questioned whether he could leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Haller repled: “I don’t know myself.”
