The Seattle Sounders look to pull off the biggest upset of the tournament when they play Atletico Madrid in front of their home supporters on Thursday afternoon.

Seattle lost narrowly to Botafogo 2-1 in their tournament opener, an affair that was a game of two halves. The Sounders arguably deserved a point for their second-half response after falling 2-0 behind, but in the end, they were left lacking a bit of finishing composure as striker Jordan Morris remains out.

But while Atleti will be favorites Thursday, they technically enter the fixture last in Group B behind the Sounders on goal difference after their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. The final two goals came after the 78th-minute second booking and subsequent dismissal of Clement Lenglet, who will be suspended for Atleti on Thursday.

Here's everything you need to know for Thursday's clash.

Seattle Sounders and Atletico Madrid projected lineups

Sounders boss Brian Schmetzer has opted pretty consistently for a 4-2-3-1 of late, but against Botafogo, he went a bit out of character by making two halftime substitutions on his back line. Nouhou's removal may have owed to the fact the Cameroonian was already on a yellow card. As for center back Kim Kee-Hee, it may have been a fitness issue after his return from injury, or maybe Schmetzer determined he was having trouble coping with the pace of this level of play.

Further forward, Schmetzer doesn't have a lot of options to try and get more finishing quality onto the field, but he might try to start Pedro de la Vega without sacrificing other attacking midfield options.

Atleti was hammered by PSG, but the result is more suggestive of an elite opponent and a numerical disadvantage, one that came after manager Diego Simeone had used all of his substitutions. That meant he wasn't able to insert a center back to replace the void left by Lenglet for the final 12 minutes plus stoppage time.

Seattle Sounders projected lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left)

Stefan Frei (GK) - Alex Roldan, Jon Bell, Jackson Ragen, Nouhou - Cristian Roldan, Obed Vargas - Ryan Kent, Alex Roldan, Pedro de la Vega - Jesus Ferreira

Atletico Madrid projected lineup (4-4-2, right to left)

Jan Oblak (GK) - Marcos Llorente, Robin Le Normand, Cesar Azpilicueta, Javi Galan - Giuliano Simeone, Rodrigo De Paul, Pablo Barrios, Samuel Lino - Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann

Seattle Sounders vs. Atletico Madrid prediction

The Sounders institutionally have more big-game experience than any other MLS club. And they'll probably use all of it here to make this a tougher day for Atleti than it looks on paper.

But with Kim still not 100% and Yeimar Gomez still not healthy, the back line isn't strong enough to hold up against an opponent of Atleti's caliber for 90 minutes. And with Morris still laid up, there's not enough attacking ruthlessness to capitalize on what will likely be few Sounders chances.

Look for the Spaniards to find a goal sooner or later, then perhaps hit the Sounders on the counter for a second.
