With the Champions League final this weekend putting an end to a sensational season, we thought it was time to do one final Power Rankings.

Who were the top 10 teams from 2023/24? Let’s find out.

10. Borussia Dortmund

It was, in truth, a domestic campaign to forget for Borussia Dortmund.

The Schwarzgelben finished fifth in the Bundesliga, a full 27 points behind runaway winners Bayer Leverkusen.

But in Europe though, Edin Terzić’s side have been a revelation. Dortmund finished top in the Group of Death that included PSG, Milan and Newcastle before beating PSV, Atlético Madrid and the French giants to reach the final.

All eyes are now on Wembley ahead of this weekend’s game.

9. Olympiacos

Much like Dortmund, it was a season of mixed blessings for Olympiacos.

The Piraeus side finished third in the Greek Super League with Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men failing to beat rivals Panathinaikos at any point during the campaign.

On the continent though, Olympiacos have made themselves immortal.

Ayoub El Kaabi was the hero as the striker scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa in the Conference League semi-final before etching his name in history with a winner in the final versus Fiorentina.

8. Sporting

The Portuguese Primeira Liga is often derided as a three-team league but this term there was only ever one side who were going to win it.

Sporting were sensational from day one with striker Viktor Gyökeres having one of the great years in front of goal.

The Sweden international netted 43 in all competitions as Sporting won the league by 10 points and didn’t lose a game from December onwards.

7. Paris Saint-Germain

It was a Ligue and Coupe double for Paris Saint-Germain this time around as the capital club finally waved goodbye to Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé’s exit had been a long time coming and it’s fair to say that his prolonged goodbye overshadowed what’s been a pretty good campaign for Luis Enrique’s side.

PSG won Ligue 1 by nine points and beat Lyon in the Coupe de France final.

Still though, the Champions League evades them as PSG lost to Dortmund in this season’s semi-finals.

6. Stuttgart

It’s been a remarkable 2023/24 for Stuttgart.

This time last season the Swabian side were beating Hamburg in the Bundesliga relegation play-off, having finished in 16th place on 33 points.

This term though, Sebastian Hoeness’ side were the best of the rest as they beat Bayer Munich to second place and qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2009/10.

5. Arsenal

It was so near, and yet to far for Arsenal this term.

Mikel Arteta’s side went toe-to-toe with Premier League champions Manchester City taking the title race all the way to the last day.

As it was though, the Gunners finished second on 89 points but with the best defence in the division.

It’s a strong base to build from for next term where the north London side will surely be aiming for another title tilt and a better run in all the cup competitions.

4. Inter

Despite tailing off towards the end of the season with just one win in their last four, this was Inter’s year from start to finish in Italy.

Simeone Inzaghi’s side went top of Serie A in week three and never let up, eventually winning the Scudetto by 19 points.

Lautaro Martinez was the star as the Argentina international bagged 27 goals in all competitions. Even he though, couldn’t help the Nerazzurri past Atlético Madrid in the Champions League last 16.

Surely a run to another European final is what’s on the cards for Inter next season?

3. Manchester City

After last season’s heroic treble, perhaps it was inevitable that this term was seen as a slightly disappointing one for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Despite losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final and being beaten by Manchester United in the FA Cup final, there was still plenty of silverware to be lifted by the Citizens.

With the help of Phil Foden, City won their fourth-consecutive Premier League – something that had never been done before – and also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to boot.

All in all, not bad.

2. Real Madrid

A brilliant campaign could go one better this weekend.

Real Madrid were far and away the best team in Spain this term with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jnr firing Los Blancos to their 36th title.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are aiming to add the Champions League to their trophy cabinet this weekend as they take on Dortmund at Wembley.

1. Bayer Leverkusen

How could the number one on our season-ending list by any team other than Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s were one game away from completely a truly remarkable unbeaten treble but even in spite of that Europa League final defeat to Atalanta last week, to lose just one game all season is almost unheard of.

The Werkself have cast off the shackles of the ‘Neverkusen’ moniker and claimed the first Bundesliga title in their history in the best way possible.

Not only have Leverkusen won the domestic double, they’ve done it by playing some of the very best football in Europe.

Bayer Leverkusen have been, without doubt, the number one team in Europe in 2023/24.
