Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff has admitted that he is “flattered” by links to Manchester United but is “100% focused” on getting back into Rafa Benitez’s team next season.

Longstaff burst on to the scene this term and was probably the Magpies player of the season up until a knee injury in March curtailed his progress.

Despite that, rumours of a bid from Manchester United won’t go away, with many thinking that the England youth international would be an ideal fit for life at Old Trafford.

But the 21-year-old has insisted that he is just thinking about his fitness and playing in that famous black and white shirt again in 2019/20.

“It just shows how far I’ve come,” he told the Newcastle Chronicle.

“If someone told us at the start of the season that by the end of it you’d be linked with these teams I’d have laughed at them but it’s nice, it’s flattering.

“I’m massively flattered to have my name even mentioned in those conversations but like I said, I’m 100% focused on Newcastle and trying to get fit and get back in the team here.”
