Sean Dyche has been sacked from Burnley.

Dyche was the longest-serving manager in the Premier League but the Clarets looked certain to be relegated this season.

Despite that, the footballing world was shocked by Burnley’s decision.

Burnley sack Dyche

In a statement, they said: “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by Academy Director Paul Jenkins, Under-23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and Club Captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team for Sunday’s game with West Ham United.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

The Premier League will be worse off without Dyche’s personality every week.

While his brand of football may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, you simply can’t deny that he offered plenty of entertainment himself.

Following his sacking, social media was full of videos and stories of the great man.

And we have our favourite.

John McGinn vs Sean Dyche

It was told by Luke Moore of The Football Ramble podcast and it involved an alleged argument with Aston Villa’s John McGinn.

The story goes that Dyche was moaning at McGinn and the Aston Villa midfielder told the Burnley boss to ‘shut up.’

“So you’ve been in the Premier League for one season and you think you’re proper big time, telling me to ‘shut up’?” Dyche replied.

To which McGinn fired back: “You’ve been in the Premier League for six seasons and you’re still wearing the same s*** coat, you big p****!”

Dyche was asked about the argument afterwards

After the match, Dyche was asked about the reported exchange. And, while he didn’t confirm what had actually been said, he admitted he knew McGinn’s brother.

“There were a couple of things said between us – but what goes on the pitch stays on the pitch,” Dyche told talkSPORT. “There was nothing untoward, it was all friendly fire.

“I worked with his brother Stevie down at Watford. He was a really good player and had some very unfortunate injuries.

“I was remarking on that and he made a couple of remarks. But that used to be standard!

“It makes a story now, it’s bizarre. It was just a bit of light-hearted fun in a serious moment.

“But I’ve got no problem with that. It would actually be quite pleasant if there more of that.

“Nowadays it would be more like, ‘Can you get a shirt signed for me?’ That’s as passionate as it gets.”

What about his coat?

And what about his lovely coat?

“By the way, if he did allegedly say that – I’m not going to say whether he did or didn’t – it’s a very nice coat I’ll have him know!” Dyche joked.

“And I haven’t had it for six years, I’ve had it for about two.”

The Premier League will miss you, Sean.
