Almería head coach Gaizka Garitano has this weekend opened up on the personal toll the club’s struggles have taken on him across the season to date.

For those not aware, Almería are currently in the midst of what could ultimately prove to be a record-breakingly dismal campaign in Spain’s top-flight.

All told, in 23 outings to date, the Indálicos have failed to emerge on the right side of the result even once.

In turn, their six draws and 17 defeats leave the club cut adrift at the bottom of the La Liga standings, a full 14 points from safety.

Ahead of his side’s meeting with Athletic Club on Monday, the aforementioned Gaizka Garitano, this weekend, was therefore asked for an insight into just how taxing Almería’s woes have been, on he and his players alike.

And, in responding, the former Athletic boss went on to admit that this period has proven ‘probably the hardest’ of his lengthy career in the game:

“It is a new situation for me, very hard, probably the hardest I have experienced in my sporting life because it drags on,” Garitano began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “I’m good emotionally, in terms of work, in pushing the players, in preparing for the games. I have that state of mind as standard, I usually have it high. But logically these have been tough months that we have to go through and learn. But if you ask me about enthusiasm, strength and desire; I’m like the first day I came. I have the same enthusiasm and the same capacity for work, but these have been screwed up months.”
