FC Bayern are still on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. Thomas Tuchel had already stated shortly after taking up his position in Munich that the team lacked a typical holding six in the squad. However, the former Bayern coach did not get his transfer wish fulfilled. Now, the Munich club have apparently set their sights on a promising talent.

Bayern are apparently looking to Sweden in their search for reinforcements in the centre of midfield. Scouts from the German record champions are said to have been at the match between IFK Göteborg and Mjällby AIF to get an impression of midfield talent Malick Junior Yalcouye.

The 18-year-old only moved to Sweden from the Ivory Coast last winter and has immediately established himself in the Gothenburg first team. Ola Larsson, Gothenburg’s technical director, is delighted with the skills of his new arrival. In his eyes, Yalcouye is already „the best player“ in the team. His physicality is simply on „another level“.

Yalcouye also put in a strong performance on Tuesday. He could only be stopped by fouls on several occasions and earned his team six free-kicks. This top figure is not uncommon for the Mali-born midfielder. He takes an average of 4.9 free kicks per game.

Great interest in Yalcouye

Larsson also confirmed the presence of several scouts from various top clubs across Europe. In addition to FC Bayern, these are said to include Manchester United, Liverpool FC, Ajax Amsterdam, Red Bull Salzburg and FC Bologna. „Oh yes, these clubs are always keeping an eye on him,“ Larsson is quoted as saying by the Swedish newspaper Expressen .

The Swedish first division club is expecting a bidding war for the youngster and is definitely open to a sale: „If we receive an offer we can’t refuse, then we will sell him.“

Apparently, those in charge at Gothenburg are hoping that Yalcouye could become the club’s new record transfer. A transfer fee of between eight and nine million euros is rumoured to be on the table.
