The Scottish FA are going to look into appointing referees from outside of Scotland, the BBC report.
A meeting between the SFA and the 12 Scottish Premiership clubs on Monday saw the standard of officiating called into question.
Referees could be brought in from England, Wales, or elsewhere, as plans are to be discussed.
The Daily Record say Scottish champions Celtic are driving the idea to bring in referees from overseas.
Scottish Premiership games have been judged by officials from abroad before.
In 2010, Scottish referees went on strike and had replacements brought in from Israel, Luxembourg and Malta.
The BBC report claims foreign referees could be introduced as soon as next season.
