Scott McTominay has spoken of how he continues to speak with Jose Mourinho despite the manager being sacked in December 2018.

The youngster made his debut under Mourinho against Arsenal in May 2017 and was often trusted to start in big games ahead of Paul Pogba.

McTominay remains an important aspect of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current setup at Old Trafford, making nine appearances in all competitions so far this term.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports News, McTominay said: “Jose is very special to me. He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch after some games.

“He’ll always have a special place in mine and my family’s heart because he’s the one who brought you in, he was the one who trusted you, he was the one who had belief in you.

“I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him because if it wasn’t for him I might not necessarily be sitting in this seat.”

Mourinho often made a point of championing McTominay, a player whose aggression and commanding personality seemed to encapsulate both Mourinho’s DNA and what he thought was United’s DNA as well.

Much like how the 56-year-old fell in love with Michael Essien, he has a similar affection towards this similarly tough-tackling midfielder.
