Scotland went close to an opening goal several times, Sophie Howard hitting the post, Claire Emslie and Rachel Corsie just off target, debutant Brogan Hay firing wide when Caroline Weir’s strike was spilled.

Iceland’s first effort followed but the drive by Amanda Andradottir went the wrong side of the post.

The second half saw Iceland come into the game much more and Oluf Kristinsdottir’s deflected shot on 50 minutes beat Lee Gibson, with the same player curling home the second moments later.

As Scotland looked to respond, Abi Harrison and Martha Thomas both saw shots deflected out for corners.

Gibson denied Anna Dorvaldsdottir and in the dying minutes, Corsie’s attempt from distance was wide.

Wales and the Philippines meet in the second match this evening.
