Chelsea ace Fran Kirby says that scoring a goal in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup final in 2018 was a dream come true.

Kirby netted the final goal for The Blues in their 3-1 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final victory over Arsenal three-and-a-half years ago and she will be hoping to replicate that moment against the same opponents again this afternoon in the 2020/2021 final.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Kirby admitted that it is always an honour to find the back of the net at the national stadium.

“I really enjoyed that final in 2018,” Kirby told FAWSL Full-Time. “I think the mentality going into that game was that we were really focused and ready.

“Obviously, they had just scored so there was a feeling that they might get another one and get back into it.

“I was pleased to score, it is an honour to score at Wembley and it is somewhere that you dream of playing when you are growing up. To be able to do that was a dream come true.”

The Blues would complete the domestic treble with victory over The Gunners at the national stadium but Kirby said that she is not focusing too much on the big occasion.

She said “Obviously, I am really excited. I’ve been able to play at Wembley a couple of times now so it is quite nice that we get to go back there again with Chelsea.

“You are just going to try and approach it like any other game, you can’t get too caught up in it. I’m not really thinking about the journey to get there, I am just thinking about what I can do in that moment, I’m just excited.”

The 2020/2021 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final kicks-off at 2pm at Wembley Stadium.
