Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has addressed the media ahead of the club’s heavyweight clash with Feyenoord this weekend.
Here is what he had to say.
“Steven Berghuis, Steven Bergwijn and Mohammed Kudus are fit enough to start.
“Calvin Bassey to the center and Owen Wijndal at left back is an option, but Edson Alvárez could also play centrally, so we’ll see that on Sunday.”
“That would certainly be possible, 5-3-2 is a very interesting variant. We trained some variants this week and that includes this one.
“Maybe there are times when you do it, you can play in different formations at different times during the match, that’s all possible”
“We prepared well tactically. This match could be a turning point for us in terms of results. Feyenoord would like to have the ball, just like we do. That’s what they have the players for. Both teams also play offensively.”
“No, those sentiments don’t play a role. I talked to him about how he felt and how he viewed Feyenoord away. Berghuis feels good and fit and had an excellent week of training after his illness.”
“It’s not a crucial match for me … But we have to play every match we play to win. We are a few points behind, but we want to become champions.
“It’s going to be an interesting fight. I don’t care who is pre-marked as a favourite. We are Ajax and we are going for the win in De Kuip.”
“We can take a big step here to win the title.”
