Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer divided opinion after starting Dean Henderson in goal against Sheffield United.
Henderson made a mistake early in the game, but pulled off an excellent save late to maintain United's 3-2 win away from home.
Part of the reason he got the start was due to his spending two years at Sheffield United on loan.
United legend Paul Scholes disagreed with Henderson starting, saying: "I think it [the mistake] comes from not playing games. I think it was a little bit of a strange decision to bring him in.
"Chris Wilder obviously spotted a bit of weakness when he was here last year. He crowded him, he's not the biggest of keepers and he did flap a little bit."
Michael Owen, however, felt it was a good choice.
He said: "Apart from that mistake he did well. It was interesting listening to the lads before the game, I get the fact that you don't want to change too much, but here's a young lad that could be the future of Manchester United.
"Is De Gea going to be there forever? Probably not.
"You can't just leave him on the bench for the next three or four years and then all of a sudden think he's going to be the future.
"Putting him out on loan is the perfect scenario, but that's happened for the last couple of seasons.
"Now it's a case of, can you give him enough time, so that when the time comes to hand over the gloves, he's experienced enough to play in this team."
