AC Milan will head into the new season with Olivier Giroud as their starting centre-forward, but things could have been a lot different had he been open to moving to Saudi Arabia.

Giroud scored 14 goals in 2021-22 after his arrival from Chelsea and was a crucial component of the Rossoneri’s triumphal ride towards their 19 Scudetto, netting crucial winners against Inter and Napoli among others.

Last season he scored 18 goals including five in the Champions League, with Milan clinching a semi-final berth for the first time since the 2006-07  season.

The centre-forward has shown his love for Milan on several occasions publicly, and it seems his words also translate to actions based on what has happened this summer.

According to journalist Nicolò Schira, around two months ago an Arab club – specifically from the PIF Fund – offered the 36-year-old a €12m per year contract until 2025, with an option for an additional year.

The Frenchman, however, made it clear that he is happy at Milan and that the money is not as important to him as playing for one of Europe’s biggest and most historic clubs.
