FC Schalke 04’s first game of 2021/22 will be at home to Hamburger SV, which will kick off the 2. Bundesliga season. The game will take place at 20:30 CEST on Friday, 23rd July at the VELTINS-Arena.

“It’s a really exciting game to start with, which we will really look forward to,” said Dimitrios Grammozis. “We will prepare ourselves as best we can for the league start. It’s great that we’ll begin with a home game, hopefully we’ll have as many fans there as possible – we’ve really missed them.”

Sporting director Rouven Schröder commented on the opening game against Hamburger SV: “We were already excited for the new season, but that excitement has increased even more now we know our opponents. Plenty of fans around Germany will be looking forward to this match. Now we need to prepare as best we can for it so that we can start the season well. We hope that we can have as many Schalker in the VELTINS-Arena as possible to push on the lads.”

Another attractive fixture is the one on the final day of the season. The Royal Blues will travel to play friends 1. FC Nürnberg on matchday 34 on 15th May 2022 at 15:30 CEST.

The winter break will begin after the weekend of the 17th to 19th December after the away game at HSV. League football then resumes with matchday 19 taking place between the 14th and 16th January 2022 at home to Holstein Kiel.

Exact timings for games will be announced a few weeks prior to the matches by the DFL. The only set kick-off times are for matchday 1 and 34.

Details on tickets for home games (if fans are allowed) will be announced next week.
