Schalke have confirmed the sacking of head coach David Wagner following their poor start to the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

Wagner was already on thin ice after narrowly avoiding relegation last term, with two successive defeats against Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen proving decisive.

Looking further back, the Royal Blues are 18 games without a win and have struggled to establish a clear playing style under the 48-year-old.

Former Mainz manager Sandro Schwarz is currently the favourite to replace him.
