In a statement released on Thursday, Schalke have fired back at goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann and his lawyer amid comments made to Sport Bild.

On a previous statement made by Schalke to the DPA, Fährmann’s lawyer replied with:

“Ralf Fährmann will defend himself against these untenable accusations using legal means. The player’s reputation has been massively damaged – especially by the club’s statement that was made public via ‘dpa’.”

Adding:

“We are currently examining whether we will file a criminal complaint against the club on suspicion of defamation in accordance with Section 186 of the German Criminal Code. Ralf Fährmann plans to continue his active career after this season and then work in professional football, for example as a goalkeeping coach. This plan has now become significantly more difficult due to his damaged reputation. We therefore also reserve the right to sue Schalke 04 for damages.”

This then resulted in Schalke replying once again to the lawyer’s claims in a long statement detailing their account of the events. The statement ended with a clear opinion from the club:

“Our position is just as clear: Ralf Fährmann’s contract ends on June 30, 2025, it will not be extended under any circumstances and Fährmann will leave the club after that. Even though Ralf Fährmann says he still considers himself to be the best goalkeeper at Schalke, he will not play another game for the Royal Blues.”

The 36-year-old last played for Schalke on January 26th of this year in a 4-1 loss to Kaiserslautern. While this season he did not once make the matchday squad. In his place, Schalke preferred to field Justin Heekeren as their number one, while Ron-Thorben Hoffmann was used as the number two.

Die Königsblau are currently 13th in the 2.Bundesliga, once again, looking a long way off from returning to the first division any time soon. Schalke have only won once in their past six games, a 2-0 win against Jahn Regensburg and later today they play Kaiserslautern.
