Schalke were relegated from the Bundesliga on Tuesday night, bringing an abysmal season to an end at last.
This is what went down …
Scorers: Fabian Klos 50′
Schalke’s long-expected relegation was finally confirmed on Tuesday night with a drab defeat at Arminia Bielefeld, who gave their own survival hopes a huge boost.
A second half strike from Fabian Klos was met by a poor blunder from Ralf Fährmann, a goal which sums up their season.
They have now been relegated for the first time since 1988 and for the fourth time in their history.
Scorers: Choupo-Moting 7′, Kimmich 13′
Bayern Munich took a huge step towards the title with a comfortable home win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put them in front with an early close range finish before Joshua Kimmich curled in a well-taken quickfire second.
The result means that if Bayern win this Saturday, they will be champions for a ninth straight season.
Scorers: Hinteregger 38′, Silva 58′
Eintracht Frankfurt got right back on track in their Champions League pursuit with a big bounce-back win over Augsburg.
Following their surprise heavy loss to coach Adi Hütter’s future club Gladbach last weekend, they responded in style thanks to headers in each half from Martin Hinteregger and André Silva, while the visitors missed a penalty due to an awful attempt from Alfred Finbogasson.
The result means Frankfurt move up to third and are now seven points clear of fifth-placed Dortmund, who play on Wednesday against Union.
