Schalke 04 bids farewell to eight players

As reported by Sky Germany, Schalke 04 bid farewell to eight professionals on Wednesday as the club looks to rebuild once again in the 2. Bundesliga.

Schalke brought in over 11 players on short-term deals or season-long loans last summer as the club looked to compete in the Bundesliga once again. However, after a tough campaign, the royal blues once again find themselves in the second tier of German football.

Due to this, S04 has to say goodbye to eight players in one go. These include Alexander Schwolow, Jere Uronen, Eder Balanta, Michael Frey, Alex Kral, Maya Yoshida, Tom Krauß, and Moritz Jenz.

Czech Republic international Kral had already agreed a contract with Champions League side Union Berlin whilst experienced Japanese centreback Yoshida was only going to extend if relegation was avoided. The others all returned to their parent clubs after a season-long loan.

Due to some financial difficulties, it’s unlikely that the loan players from this season will re-join the royal blues in the 2. Bundesliga. Schalke will have to source quality from elsewhere if they’re to bounce straight back into the top division. A long summer transfer window awaits.
