Scaroni sheds light on Elliott’s commitment to Milan and start date for construction of new stadium | OneFootball

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has shed some light on the club’s long-term plans as well as the situation regarding a new stadium.

Ever since Elliott Management took control of the club two years ago, there has been persistent speculation that they are not here for the long haul and rather are simply looking to get the club into a financially stable position before selling.

However, there are also signs that point towards the American fund being fully committed to a multi-year project which will – all being well – restore the club among the top teams in Europe once again, somewhere they haven’t been for a number of years now.

Scaroni was interviewed by Sky Italia and spoke about the plans of the ownership, beginning by confirming that they have already made a substantial financial commitment to the club.

“Elliott has put in a lot of money to cover the losses we have had in the last two years. They continue to support us and look forward to their project to make Milan the great team it must be,” he said (via MilanNews).

“They do so as a shareholder, in the meeting, appointing me, Gazidis and the Board of Directors and never failing to support. The desire to make the club grow is demonstrated every day, the plan is being realised with all these capable young players who have so many years in front of them.

“Elliott sets no time limits, a fund like this will make its choices but I don’t see this day near [a sale].

“The decline of the last 10 years in Serie A has come to a halt with the unanimous decision taken by the Lega to open the doors to an investor who will help us grow from the point of view of TV rights in Italy and in the world. the best sign of a new way in which Serie A looks to the future.”

Scaroni also gave an update on the new stadium situation, regarding which there has been reports of growing optimism in the media from the two clubs.

Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous are the two competing firms trying to land the project, with both Milanese teams absolutely intent on constructing a new state of the art stadium.

“I am very busy on the stadium, I consider it a fundamental piece for Milan, for Inter and for all football teams. If we do not put ourselves to build modern stadiums as they have in other countries, it will be difficult to think that Serie A will resume the role it had 15 years ago,” he said.

“We presented the new application to the Council which acknowledges the observations made, now it will have to go through the scrutiny of the offices. I have optimism, I speak with the Mayor and the councillors and everyone has realised that a project that will make the Milan stadium the most beautiful in the world is an indispensable thing.

“I would also add that, also from an employment point of view, have two foreign investors who will put 1.2 billion into Milano, employing three thousand people for several years, it seems to me to be something that cannot be rejected.

“I believe that we will put the first brick down next year. When the council approves the project, we will move from a preliminary project to a detailed project. We will invest only in this 50 million and, from the middle of next year, we will start the works. This is the plan we have in mind.”
