It is nearly a year since Paolo Maldini was sacked by AC Milan, and at a recent event, the Rossoneri’s president, Paolo Scaroni, replied to a question regarding the legend.

The summer of 2023 will be remembered fondly for the additions of Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders, among others. However, the off-season will also be remembered for the departures of Maldini and Sandro Tonali, which was a blow to Milan.

Losing two fan favourites – who have had a clear impact on the Rossoneri in recent times – will always hurt, but losing both in such a short period made a few speculate how the club would move forward without the presence of the duo.

However, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival, things seem to be on the up, and with Stefano Pioli set to depart in the upcoming summer, there is a feeling of optimism surrounding the club about stepping into a new era.

Scaroni spoke at an event organised by Il Foglio and responded to a question about Maldini – his comments have been relayed by Football Italia.

“I have not heard from him. When somebody looks at the past with bitterness, it means that he’s not living the present too well. I hope this is not Maldini’s case, and I wish him a life full of satisfaction.”
