AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has confirmed that striker Mario Mandzukic has given up his salary for the month of March due to being injured.

Mandzukic arrived in the January market together with Fikayo Tomori and Soualiho Meite and has not yet had the chance to help his team-mates, having played just 158 minutes so far with his start to life at Milan not helped by a muscle problem.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SpazioMilan) reported yesterday how Milan do not seem to have abandoned the idea of exercising their option to renew his contract at the end of the season. The paper adds that at Milanello they still believe in the former Bayern Munich and Juventus striker and therefore an extension cannot be excluded.

Now, it has been confirmed that Mandzukic has given up on receiving his March salary, because he was unavailable due to injury, and Paolo Scaroni confirmed the news during an interview with ANSA.

“An exceptional gesture which demonstrates the ethics and professionalism of Mario Mandzukic and his respect for Milan. The Club will thus have the opportunity to further support the Milan Foundation for projects in favour of young people in conditions of socio-economic and educational fragility, in which sport is a tool for social inclusion,” he said (via MilanNews).
