Gianluca Scamacca explains how Gian Piero Gasperini transformed his career with Atalanta and hopes to take this incredible form into EURO 2024 with Italy.

The striker was on target again this evening in the 3-0 Serie A victory over Torino, which took them up to at least fourth place, with a game in hand.

“We wanted to give our fans a great game and a great victory after Wednesday in Dublin,” Scamacca told Sky Sport Italia.

They were given a guard of honour by Torino before kick-off and then showed off the Europa League trophy to the home fans, having crushed the previously invincible Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Final.

“It means a lot because the enthusiasm and hunger pushed us on tonight. We made history this season, we brought a trophy home and that is the most important thing.

“We’re still relishing the moment and I think we’ll keep it going for a while longer. We played over 50 games, a bit of rest is necessary now.”

Atalanta transformed Scamacca

Scamacca has always shown promise and rarely delivered, but since March he has been seemingly unstoppable.

Was it Luciano Spalletti cutting him from the Italy squad over a poor attitude that made the shift or was it Gasperini moulding him to suit this Atalanta side?

“The coach hammered me day after day, told me how to move on the pitch, but also I started to get into good physical shape and so could give him what he wanted.

“One of my objectives was to get into the Euros, now we need to defend the title and honour the jersey.”
