Atalanta and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca feels he has ‘improved’ under Gian Piero Gasperini but insists he would make the same decisions against Juventus.

Scamacca started for the second time in a row for Atalanta. This time, it was in an away Serie A game at Juventus. The ex-West Ham striker didn’t find the net and ignored his teammate Charles De Ketelaere in the second half when he tried to score from outside the box rather than passing it to the Belgian talent.

DAZN asked Scamacca if he’d do it again and the Italian replied without hesitation.

“I would probably do the same. A striker must shoot when he sees the goal,” he replied as quoted by Juventusnews24.com.

“Sometimes it enters the net. The fact is, when the mist descends and I put the ball on my right foot, I can see nothing else. If I had seen De Ketelaere, I would’ve passed it to him.”

Scamacca joined Atalanta from West Ham last summer and has scored eight goals in 29 appearances with La Dea this term.

The Italian feels he has improved by working under Gasperini in Bergamo.

“He hammers us every day. He knows his stuff and I feel I have made great steps forward,” he said.

“I can see it every day, in games and training sessions. I follow his tips.

“When I arrived [from West Ham], I was coming back from a meniscus injury. I worked hard, and I feel better physically now. I have improved and I’ll improve my shape with regular playing time.”

Scamacca, 25, is under contract at the Gewiss Stadium until June 2027.

He scored his first and only international goal for Italy this past October in an away game against England at Wembley Stadium.
