Gianluca Scamacca was again on the scoresheet for Atalanta as they flew to a Coppa Italia semi-final win over Fiorentina, providing more frustration for West Ham.

The Italian striker spent a single season in East London before returning to Italy last summer, managing eight goals across 27 appearances for the Hammers. He was sold to La Dea for €25m plus €5m in add-ons, bringing an end to his brief Premier League adventure.

Since leaving West Ham and returning to Serie A, Scamacca has found a new lease of life under Gian Piero Gasperini, netting 15 goals across 36 matches, including the decisive second goal in the 4-1 win over Fiorentina in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday evening.

West Ham and Fiorentina regrets

TMW highlighted how things could’ve gone differently for Scamacca, who was on the cusp of joining Fiorentina in the summer of 2021, just a year before his eventual move to West Ham, giving the Viola a source of regret.

For a different reason, the Hammers also have reason to be frustrated with how things went; David Moyes’ side have struggled to look dangerous in front of goal this season and could’ve benefited from the Italian striker, who likely would’ve performed better in his second Premier League campaign.
