Giorgio Scalvini has made a miraculous recovery from his cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, as he has been included in the travelling Atalanta squad for Saturday evening’s match against Parma in Serie A, less than six months on from the original blow.
In a cruel blow, the 20-year-old ruptured his ACL in the final minutes of the last day of the 2023-24 Serie A campaign, which ruled him out of EURO 2024 and was originally expected to keep him sidelined until 2025.
However, the eight-time Italy international has made an incredible recovery and has been included in Gian Piero Gasperini’s travelling squad to face Parma in Serie A this weekend.
At the time of writing, it has been five months and 20 days since Scalvini suffered the blow to his knee, which happened in the 2-2 draw with Fiorentina on June 2.
Still only 19 at the beginning of last term, Scalvini made 33 appearances in Serie A in the 2023-24 season, and 32 in the season before, when he was 18 at the start of the campaign.
