Perhaps it had to be one in the Welsh capital, though, after the season they had in 2021/22.
Following back-t0-back top-eight finishes, the Bluebirds did not do so well last term, ending the campaign sitting 18th in the Championship table.
There were emerging young talents, though, with positives to take in that sense.
Cardiff will be hoping their summer additions – of which there have been 12 so far – will be able to integrate well with the young talent already at the club.
With less than two weeks until the new campaign gets underway, many are starting to predict what line-ups their side might field on the opening day.
transfers, it is a tough task to do so for Cardiff, but we thought we’d try it anyway.
Here is what we think could be the strongest XI for the Bluebirds ahead of their season opener against Norwich City at the end of the month.
Like many positions in this XI, there could have been a different selection in here, but as you can see, we’ve gone for Ryan Allsop, with Dillion Phillips deputising.
Perry Ng and Curtis Nelson could be the central defenders Morison opts for on the opening day, but new signing Cedric Kipre, and the likes of Sean Morrison will have something to say about that.
It’s a toss up at left-back – we’ve gone for Jamilu Collins but it could have quite easily been Joel Bagan. It will be interesting to see those two battle it out this season.
In the midfield, Ryan Wintle and Joe Ralls remain from last term, as does Rubin Colwill, who plays in the attacking midfield role, but off of the right hand side.
This makes room for new summer signing Romaine Sawyers.

Out wide left, it was a toss up between Callum O’Dowda and Sheyi Ojo and we’ve just about given the edge to the former.
On the right, with not much to choose from, Gavin Whyte gets the nod after an impressive campaign at Oxford United last term.
Things are extremely light in the striking department with just two senior strikers on the books at present.
For our XI we’ve gone with Mark Harris – although you would expect the Bluebirds to sign a first-choice number nine in the coming days and weeks.
