Tottenham target Savinho will miss out on Manchester City’s trip to Wolves this weekend through injury, Pep Guardiola has revealed.

The Brazilian winger, 21, is being pursued by Spurs as the new Premier League season looms, and City boss Guardiola confirmed on Friday that the player would be absent from his squad at Molineux this weekend.

Rather than being due to speculation over his future, though, the Spanish manager said Savinho’s omission from City’s matchday squad is down to an unspecified injury he picked up against sister club Palermo, who City beat 3-0 last weekend in their final pre-season friendly of the summer.

Savinho started the second half of that match and was not reported as an injury doubt until Friday’s pre-match press conference, but Guardiola said he is now expected to be out for “a few weeks”.

Addressing rumours that the pacy wide man could leave the Etihad this summer amid continued interest from Spurs, the City boss added that he hopes Savinho will stay in Manchester “for many, many years”.

"I don't know - if Tottenham, or any other club, wants a player, you should call the club, right? It's the same like we do,” Guardiola said.

"The only thing I am concerned about today is that Savinho will be with us all the season, and hopefully for many, many years. At 21 years old with the potential he has... he's played a lot of minutes, he has to improve his final decisions but he's an extraordinary player. Otherwise he would not play more than 3,000 minutes.”

He added: “But at the end, as always, the desire of the player prevails above everything. After there has to be an agreement with the club. If you don't take an agreement, the player will be here."

It comes amid reports that Spurs had an offer in the region of £60m for the Brazilian rejected by City, with the player’s agents said to be flying over from Brazil to help faciliate the move.

Savinho is one of several signings being eyed by new Spurs boss Thomas Frank as transfer deadline day nears, with other top targets including Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze.
