Chelsea are officially up for sale now, and this first week has seen no shortage of bidders, with new names emerging every day.
It’s often hard to assess how serious some of the bidders in question are – there’s no doubt that there will be plenty doing it for the publicity. But we have to take each one as it comes, and this latest one has at least made it to the pages of Goal.com as something that might actually happen.
They write that a Saudi consortium “led by Saudi Media” have serious interest in buying the club. It’s not very clear who might be in that group, but “Saudi Media are a fund that is heavily involved in funding media advertising and sports brands across the world.”
And, presumably they have some connection to Saudi Arabia and its royal family.
They don’t seem to own any other football teams, so we can only really guess what they’d be like as owners. Some of the other names that have been suggested are truly dire, so they might be worth taking a punt on – but we’d need to find out more first.
