Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is the latest marquee name to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with Marca reporting that Al-Ahli have proposed a sumptuous offer for the Argentine.
The contract could make the Argentine one of the highest-paid men in the Saudi Pro League.
Simeone’s current deal expires in 2024, and his situation has caught the attention of Al-Ahli, who recently snapped up ex-Liverpool star Roberto Firmino on a free transfer.
He has been in charge of Los Rojiblancos for more than a decade, helping them become a thorn in the side of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
His reputation came to question after Atletico hit new lows midway through last season, failing to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League and missing out on the Europa League.
However, Simeone steered a massive turnaround after the World Cup, eventually helping Atletico finish third in La Liga.
No team in the Spanish top flight collected more points than Atletico (53) after the Qatar World Cup, including champions Barcelona.
Simeone has already started planning for next season with Atletico, sanctioning the arrivals of Javi Galan, Cesar Azpilicueta and Caglar Soyuncu.
Atletico’s hierarchy are planning to make a contract renewal offer in the coming months as they want to extend the partnership with the 53-year-old for the foreseeable future.
Al-Ahli are also keeping tabs on Atletico striker Alvaro Morata, although AC Milan are reportedly ahead in the transfer race.
