Following Saudi Arabia’s surprising and historic win (1-2) over Argentina in Group C’s opening match yesterday, defender Ali Albulayhi revealed to the press what he said in his small spat with Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi, as reported by Eurosport.

It was an interaction between the pair that went viral on social media, as Ali Albulayhi revealed he told Lionel Messi that his side “wouldn’t win” with half an hour of the match to spare until the final whistle.

Saudi Arabia went 1-0 down via a penalty for the Argentina captain Messi, but they hit back with two strikes in the second half – the first a low strike from Salem Aldawsari before Yaser Al-Shrahani sent his nation into euphoria with a long range strike which beat Emiliano Martinez. The pressure now mounts on Argentina in their remaining two group games against Mexico on Saturday and Poland during the following week.
