Saudi Arabia manager Hervé Renard resigns to take over France’s Women’s team | OneFootball

According to AFP, Hervé Renard has left his post of Saudi Arabia men’s national team manager. The news agency has quoted a member of the Saudi FA that says : “Renard is determined to return to France to take over a national team.” The source adds that the Saudi FA had accepted his resignation. The former Lille head coach is now on the verge of being named manager of the France’s women team. Renard, a double AFCON winner, is the French FA’s sole candidate to replace Corinne Diacre, with the latter having been dismissed from her position amid a player exodus over her management style, just months before the World Cup kicks off in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

Renard needed to find an agreement with the Saudi FA, with whom he was under contract with until 2027, before embarking on his journey home to France. The 54-year-old manager is currently overseeing his team’s friendly game against Bolivia at Jeddah’s Prince Abdullah al-Faisal Stadium. It will be his final game in charge of the Saudi national team. Renard led Saudi Arabia to an historic win over world champions Argentina in the last World Cup’s group stage. It remains to be seen whether Renard will be in charge of Les Bleues for their upcoming friendly games during the international break. France will host Colombia at Clermont on April 7 then Canada four days later at Le Mans.
