Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Greece are due to submit a bid to host the 2030 World Cup, according to a report by The Times.

The 2030 World Cup will be the 24th edition of the competition. It is set to be an extra special tournament, as it marks the 100-year anniversary of the first ever World Cup.

The bidding process remains open at this moment in time, with a number of countries already throwing their hats into the ring. It is believed that the host nations won’t be announced until 2024.

According to The Times, a joint bid between Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece is expected to be announced soon.

Should the bid win, it would be the third World Cup to be joint hosted. The 2002 World Cup was shared between Japan and South Korea, and the 2026 tournament is set to be divided between the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Additionally, it will be the first time that any of these three nations have hosted a World Cup. Egypt would become just the second African nation to host the competition, after South Africa in 2010.

It would be the first World Cup to be hosted in multiple continents. Some believe that this could be a major advantage to the bid, with up to three confederations backing it.

The Times claims that the tournament would have to be moved to winter in order to avoid the extreme temperatures of the summer. This has caused major scheduling issues in the 2022/23 season, with the Qatar World Cup set to begin in November.

However, there is due to be major competition for the hosting rights. A South American bid between Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Paraguay has been confirmed by CONMEBOL, while Spain and Portugal have also expressed their desire to joint host. Morocco are also believed to be interested, and other bids are expected to be announced in the near future.
